From New York City to Your Doorstep: The Story Behind Kahve Coffee
There’s coffee—and then there’s Kahve Coffee.
For us, coffee has never been simply something you drink in the morning. It’s a ritual. The smell of freshly ground beans, the sound of an espresso pulling, and that first sip before the day officially begins.
That love of coffee has been at the heart of Kahve since the beginning.
Born in New York City
Kahve was established in New York City in 2011 with a simple idea: serve genuinely great coffee in a space that felt warm, welcoming, and part of the neighborhood.
Over the years, Kahve grew to multiple locations and became part of the Hell’s Kitchen community. We got to know our regulars, watched friendships form over coffee, and served more espresso shots than we could ever count.
Along the way, we were incredibly proud to be recognized as Best Coffee Shop in Hell’s Kitchen in the W42ST Best of Awards in 2020.
But what mattered most was seeing people make Kahve part of their everyday routine.
A New Chapter
Like many independent businesses, the years following the pandemic changed our path. Eventually, our brick-and-mortar chapter came to an end—but our love for Kahve never did.
So we started thinking differently.
What if we could take the coffee people remembered from New York and bring it directly into their homes?
Today, Kahve Coffee has evolved from a neighborhood NYC coffee shop into an online coffee company, bringing more than a decade of coffee experience directly to your doorstep.
Different format. Same passion.
Fresh Coffee Matters
A beautiful café can create an atmosphere, but at the end of the day, the coffee has to speak for itself.
That’s why our coffee is roasted to order, with a collection ranging from bold, full-bodied blends to smooth medium roasts and lighter espresso options.
Whether you’re pulling an espresso, making a creamy latte, brewing your morning drip coffee, or grinding your beans fresh, our goal is simple: give you coffee you genuinely look forward to drinking.
We offer different sizes and grind options because everyone has their own coffee ritual—and we think that’s exactly how it should be.
Bringing the Coffee Shop Home
One of our favorite things about today’s coffee culture is seeing more people become their own home baristas.
You don’t need a professional café setup to make a great cup of coffee. Fresh beans, the right grind, your favorite brewing method, and a little practice can completely change your morning routine.
Through this blog, we’ll be sharing what we’ve learned from more than a decade in the coffee business: brewing tips, espresso techniques, coffee recipes, roast guides, behind-the-scenes stories, and plenty of ways to make better coffee at home.
Fresh Coffee, Delivered
We’ve designed our online store to make keeping great coffee in your kitchen simple.
Choose your favorite roast, select your size and grind, and we’ll take it from there. And for those who never want to wake up to an empty coffee bag, our coffee subscriptions offer 12% savings on recurring orders.
Because running out of coffee first thing in the morning is one problem we’d rather help you avoid.
Welcome Back to Kahve
Bringing Kahve back means more to us than simply relaunching a coffee brand.
Kahve has history. It has memories, friendships, early mornings, long days, loyal customers, and thousands of conversations shared over a cup of coffee.
Some of you may remember us from New York City. Others may have recently discovered us online. And for some, this may be your very first introduction.
Wherever you’re joining us from, welcome to Kahve Coffee.
Our story started in New York City in 2011. More than a decade later, the setting may have changed, but what we believe hasn’t:
Great coffee. Made with care. Worth waking up for.
Welcome to the next chapter of Kahve.
We hope you’ll stay for a cup. ☕
Why Roast Level Matters
If you've ever stood in front of a coffee display feeling overwhelmed by the words "light," "medium," and "dark," you're not alone. Roast level is one of the most important factors in how your coffee will taste — and getting it right means the difference between a cup that sings and one that falls flat. This guide breaks down exactly what each roast level means, who it's for, and how to find your perfect match.
Light Roast: Bright, Fruity & Complex
Light roasts are roasted to an internal temperature of around 350–400°F — just until the "first crack" of the bean. The result? A coffee that preserves the most origin-forward flavors: delicate florals, stone fruit, citrus brightness, and tea-like clarity.
- Flavor profile: Floral, fruity, acidic, nuanced
- Body: Light and tea-like
- Caffeine: Slightly higher than dark roasts (the roasting process burns off a small amount of caffeine)
- Best brewing method: Pour-over, Chemex, AeroPress — methods that highlight delicate notes
- Best for: Coffee drinkers who love to taste the origin story of a bean — where it was grown, the altitude, the varietal
At KAHVE COFFEE, our single-origin offerings are ideal for light roast lovers seeking transparency in every sip.
Medium Roast: Balanced & Approachable
Medium roast is the sweet spot for a reason. Roasted to around 400–430°F — past the first crack but before the second — medium roasts balance the origin character of the bean with the caramelized, chocolatey sweetness that develops during roasting.
- Flavor profile: Chocolate, caramel, nuts, mild fruit
- Body: Medium — smooth and rounded
- Caffeine: Moderate
- Best brewing method: Drip coffee maker, French press, flat-bottom pour-over
- Best for: Those who want complexity without edge — a crowd-pleasing cup that works morning to afternoon
Our signature blends are crafted with medium roast lovers in mind: smooth, rich, and endlessly drinkable. Browse our full coffee collection to find your match.
Dark Roast: Bold, Smoky & Full-Bodied
Dark roasts are taken past the second crack to around 430–450°F+. At this stage, roast characteristics dominate the cup: deep chocolate, smoke, and a heavy body that holds up beautifully to milk, cream, or sugar.
- Flavor profile: Dark chocolate, smoke, toasted nuts, low acidity
- Body: Full and heavy
- Caffeine: Slightly lower than lighter roasts
- Best brewing method: Espresso, Moka pot, French press
- Best for: Espresso drinkers, latte lovers, or anyone who wants a bold, no-nonsense cup

Medium roast is the safest starting point for most coffee drinkers — it honors both origin character and the transformative power of the roasting process. From there, lean lighter if you want more complexity and brightness, or go darker if you prefer a bolder, more intense cup.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does dark roast have more caffeine?
Contrary to popular belief, dark roast has slightly less caffeine than light roast. The difference is minimal, but the roasting process does break down a small amount of caffeine over time.
What roast is best for espresso?
Dark and medium-dark roasts are traditional for espresso because their lower acidity and heavy body pair well with the concentrated brewing process. That said, specialty "third-wave" espresso increasingly uses medium and even light roasts for a more complex, fruit-forward shot.
Can I use any roast in a drip coffee maker?
Absolutely. Drip coffee makers work well with all roast levels. Medium roast tends to shine brightest in a standard drip machine, but experimenting with light roast in a quality drip brewer can yield surprisingly complex results.
